(Answer)  (Category)  FAQs : (Category)  Check Proxy Professional FAQ (English) : (Category)  Proxy Servers : (Answer)  What is an "Open Relay" and why do I care?
An open relay is as SMTP (outgoing) mail server that is set up in such a way (intentionally or by accident) that it allows ANYONE to send email through it. This means that a person can send email through this server without having an account with the provider. This becomes an even more serious issue when the "Open Relay" is "Blind". In this situation, the server accepts email from anyone and fails to pass on information about the sender...making him virtually anonymous. This opens the door for e-mailers to use this server to send thousands of bulk e-mail messages and it is extremely difficult for anyone to take action to shut them down.
